Myers Park
Myers Park is one of the most exclusive and historic neighborhood just south of uptown Charlotte. Originally, Myers Park was a 1000 acre cotton farm owned by Jack Myers. Myers entrusted his son-in-law, George Stephens, to design this prestigious suburb meant for the town’s elite. Stephens teamed up with John Nolen, a Harvard trained landscape architect, to design a neighborhood emphasizing large estate homes, a unified landscape design, and streets that followed the topography of the area. Their plans included a mixed use design that featured some retail, schools, churches, and a few lower-scale houses. Huge oak trees line the wide streets, providing a tunnel-like canopy throughout the whole neighborhood. Just like the Dilworth neighborhood, Myers Park was also originally a streetcar sub
urb that connected it to what is now uptown Charlotte.
Many captains of industry have resided in Myers Park through the years. Some of them include: James Buchanan Duke (tobacco and utility tycoon), Joseph Efird (owner of Efird’s Department Stores, later absorbed into Belks), and many other important politicians and esteemed professionals. Myers Park’s history and its previous and current residents are the predominate reason this area is so favored. Buying a home in Myers Park means not only are you buying a wonderfully crafted piece of architecture but you’re also buying a piece of local history. Many different styles of architecture are represented in Myers Park. Most of the homes were designed by the most exclusive, local architects of the day. Tudor Revival, Colonial Revival, Colonial, and Georgian Revival are some of the classic home styles featured in Myers Park.
Look for a home in Myers Park if you want a home that has charm and class. You will stay in Myers Park because of its quiet streets, close proximity to uptown Charlotte, exquisite lifestyle, and unmatched prestige.
