North Carolina  blue ridge mtns

North Carolina is located in the Southeast.  It was one of the original thirteen colonies, originally known as Carolina.  North Carolina is the home of what is considered to be the first English colony, Roanoke Island, NC.  We are proud of our history that includes the Wright brothers’ first official flight at Kill Devil Hills near Kitty Hawk, NC in the Outer Banks.

The Charlotte area is in the Piedmont area of North Carolina and is sometimes referred to as “the foothills”.  The rolling hills of the piedmont region vary from 300 feet in elevation to 1,500 feet near the mountain.  It covers about 21,000 square miles and 44 counties.  North Carolina is located in a warm temperate zone.  It starts at the base of the Blue Ridge mountain and extends eastward to the fall line.  Almost half of this region is timbered.

North Carolina visitors enjoy the magnificent beauty of driving through the mountain ranges on the world famous 250 mile Blue Ridge Parkway.  Residents and visitors alike each year enjoy North Carolina’s beautiful beaches, hike its incredible mountains, golf its challenging golf courses, bike the hundreds of miles of trails, ski at the numerous resorts, and so on.  Anything you want to do, North Carolina can provide your venue.

Climate

The Piedmont area ( Charlotte and surrounding areas) has an extremely pleasant  climate. It is considered a sub-tropical climate. Our city enjoys a mild winter that more than makes up for the humid summer. One of the best things about the Charlotte climate is the long spring and fall seasons. They are truly the most beautiful months here. The Carolina blue skies will invite you to explore the great outdoors during all seasons.  You’ll find that precipitation is about the same as most areas in the U.S. , however, we normally don’t have overcast days. Actually on overcast day is a welcome reprieve from the sun on occasion. Take a peek at the links below to get a better feel for our wonderful weather.
