Tax Information
Property taxes:
Each area in North Carolina in and around Charlotte has two separate property taxes: county and local municipality taxes. The county and municipality tax rates vary from area to area. You simply add the two tax rates together to determine the total tax rate for the area you are interested. Some outlying areas do not have a municipal tax due to its out of city location. There are different calculations for millage, etc, but the best thing to do is refer to the tax links below to determine the property tax expenditure for your property.
South Carolina is in the process of incorporating a local option sales tax for many of its counties. In the counties this option was approved, they will increase the sales tax by 1% to offset the decrease of property tax. This way all residents bare more of the burden of more taxes based on consumption and not just home ownership. Again, please refer to the links below for more information concerning the area you are looking for a home.
Sales tax and income tax:
Simply put, North Carolina and South Carolina have sales and income taxes. The sales tax varies depending on the area or county and the income tax varies depending on income amount. Check out the links below to research both.
