Wesley Chapel
Wesley Chapel is a quaint village in the heart of Union County. Central to Wesley Chapel’s history is the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church and the Wesley Chapel School. They continue to thrive today in this vibrant, small town community. The Wesley Chapel Church was named for John Wesley; an early leader in the Methodist Church. The chapel was destroyed and rebuilt several time with the present building still is in existence today.
One of Wesley Chapel’s main distinctions has been its education. The North Carolina General Assembly introduced an education bill in 1901 that established a rural high school in Wesley Chapel in 1904. Wesley Chapel may have been the first rural, graded high school in North Carolina.
Wesley Chapel has retained its prestigious name for its entire 165 year history. The value and traditions that started Wesley Chapel still ring true today. These same values guide the town in decisions about controlled growth, and its dedication to education and community. Wesley Chapel’s Mayor Tracey Clinton says it best: Wesley Chapel is “a great place to live and raise a family.”
